New mixed media abstract painting in celebration of Earth Day

Today I finished a fun mixed media piece I did in a style of abstract naturalism in celebration of Earth Day. It's done in acrylics on a rigid canvas panel, with 3D accents using archival museum board, brass wire, mica chips, and fabric ribbon. All the materials in it are new, but I created it to look like it's made from reclaimed or recycled materials. It's abstract in style, but has plant-themed designs to be reminiscent of the way that Mother Nature will reclaim an old abandoned area, where new plant growth will sprout up through the pavement.

Handpainted Eggshell Pins

Something new that I'm very excited about are my handpainted eggshell pins. They are painted on goose shells and sprayed with a protective finish to keep the design around forever. They come with a pin attached to the back and are ready to wear. The above is my Ladybug Pin, adorned with Swarovski crystals for extra sparkle. The crystals represent flowers growing on the vine.

Pink Roses on a soft green background. The subjects are painted in acrylics and the backgrounds on all the pins are done in watercolor.

I finished another abstract painting today! This is another painting in my fluid abstracts series, entitled LAVENDER BREEZE. It's inspired by the swirling wind, carrying the scent of blossoms in the spring, and is soon to be listed on ebay.

So, I thought I'd give this blogging thing another try. Very technically challenged here...hope this works.

This is my latest piece titled "Testing The Waters". It's 20 X 24 on deep gallery wrapped canvas. Inspired (like most of my work is) by "just letting go and being me". I hope you like it!

Cat-Tails

Inspiration for this work, as is the case for most of the body of my artwork, comes from living on a large lake for over 15 years. The natural wonders found there is bountiful, beautiful and humbling.

This work is titled, "Cat-Tails" and is available as a quality print on my website, measuring 8" x 10". The first pic shows the original design with my 5/7/5 HAIKU embedded. The second pic shows the original design.

My Pretty In Pink handpainted duck egg has been painted with a beautiful, full pink rose and purple filler flowers surrounding it. I've added Swarovski crystals to the centers of some of the filler flowers for extra sparkle.

Ahhh, a warm beach, the cry of seagulls, the crashing of waves, the fragrance of tropical flowers in the air....

Boy, could I use this right now as I look out my window at the snow that is falling here.

This digital art is a photo of the first precious little blossom that my hibiscus plant managed to squeak out last week, a blessing from the Lord.

So, I took these photos and did several digital versions of it and decided that I would have a hibiscus series.

Earth Angel Art Doll

Dabbling With Charcoal

Something a little different from me....

What a beautiful day it was yesterday....70 degrees here in northeast Ohio in the middle of March....sun shining. I had to sit outside on my deck and create. So I grabbed my charcoal pencils and bristol vellum and started sketching. This tree is the prominent subject in my backyard...so beautifully structural and several stories tall. You should see it when it's in full bloom with yellow and orange tulip flowers and broad green leaves. Gotta wait a couple of months for that.

My Digital Work Exhibited in Focus 2007

When I entered 4 of my digital photos in Focus 2007, a juried photography exhibit, which benefits the arts of several northeastern Ohio towns around the Solon, Ohio area, I felt it would just be a good experience and figured that there were so many talented photographers out there that I would probably not be selected to go to the next level of the competition.

To my surprise, 3 out of my 4 entries were chosen to be exhibited in the next three exhibits. What an honor to be among the chosen photographers, who will represent their work to the communities starting this coming weekend, March 9th, 10th, and 11th. The exhibits will continue through April 27th. The participating exhibits will be held at Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls; the Fairmount Center in Novelty; and the Solon Center for the Arts in Solon.
