Baby Llama aceo

I painted this baby llama today. This is a sold aceo oil painting. Reference photo taken by Pat Otten.
I've been doing quite a few aceo's lately, and I am starting to want to go a little bigger, or alot bigger...well, bigger anyways.

This weekend we are going up to Duluth to see the big sailing ships come in. I am hoping to get some good reference photos for future paintings. Wish me luck.

Little Farm in Pemberton

I visited this little farm a couple years ago up by Pemberton, British Columbia. A beautiful area surrounded by snow crested mountains and small family farms. It was very relaxing to put paint something loose instead of the detailed projects lately. I hope you enjoy this little painting.

Warm Summer Boat

I've finally finished this painting (been working on it for quite some time now). Its based on a photograph from Gibson's Landing on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia, Canada. There were so many of these character boats in the harbour its was hard to pick just one for this painting.

Morning Still

I wanted to test my skills at a fast/loose style and choose one of perhaps thousands of photographs of the British Columbia landscape that I have taken.

I am not entirely satisfied with the beach area, but I think I'll let this one sit for a couple of days and see if anything in particular jumps out at me. All my new Daniel Smith paints (Cadmium Green Hue, Rich Green Gold, Quinacridone Gold, and Asphaltum) were used in this one as well as some old favourites (Cerulean Blue, Titanium-Zinc White, and Sap Green). I kept the palette fairly simple... but not too restrictive.

I started this painting on Thursday, and finished it yesturday, (Friday). It is 12"x12" oil on stretched canvas. I really like how he turned out.

Photo reference came from Dr. Thomas Trainer, with permission of course. I've really been having fun with these African Wildlife paintings. I'm sure you will be seeing more of them coming up.

Seascape class at Hangups

Big Daddy (Ed) Roth & Rat Fink Portrait

This is for  tonight Nibblefest starting at 7pm EST on Ebay!

Ed "Big Daddy" Roth (March 4, 1932 –
April 4, 2001) was an artist and cartoonist who created the hot-rod
icon Rat Fink and other extreme characters.

This months Nibblefest theme was Rodents, and I thought to my self


"Self, what are you going to do with that?!"

I'm not really a cute story book mouse type painter.Then I remembered one of my childhood heroes. "RAT FINK! and the man who created him.

SO, in tribute to Ed Roth, who gave me hours of pleasure not
only as a child but also as an adult (I still have some Weirdos models
in my basement waiting to be painted as we speak) , I give you the Big
Daddy Roth & Rat Fink portrait.

This is an original oil painting , working from black and
white and interpreting what colours should be there I hope I managed to
get the feeling of those crazy hot-rod beatnik days!

Roth & Rat Fink have been painted on a wooden floor board
pulled out of an over 100 year old factory which has been gessoed to
protect the painting, I have left the side UNPAINTED .I wanted it to
have that homemade feeling so typical of hot-rods of the day!
