Do You HAIKU?
I combine 5/7/5, 17-syllable HAIKU on nature with much of my artwork in various mediums. I love the short verse that provokes thought, memories and smiles. Here are some examples of art works with my HAIKU.

The Carousel Horse
The Carousel Horse
On the outside, of a beautiful carousel horse, you see shiny paint, a wooden shell, glossy colors....but look deeply into their eyes and you will see the soul of a trapped horse, who longs to be free. He doesn't want to go round and round any longer. He wants to leap from the slick, circling platform onto green meadows and feel clean air sucking through his lungs.
You don't know it, but at night, when the carousel shuts down, the hooves are freed from their pedestals, wood becomes living flesh, and the horse's wish is granted.
When I was a child, and I visited the carousel with my grandparents, the horses knew I was "one of those who understood". They'd came to my house in the dead of night and I'd hear their impatient hooves outside my window. I could open the window and make the leap onto one of their backs and spend the rest of the magical night flying across the ground on the wildest of wild horses....the carousel!

Paint Rope horse, "All Round Athlete".
Not only is this horse focusing on the calf ahead of him, he's completely tuned into his rider, while he's running from 0-40 mph in 2 seconds. In two more seconds, he'll come to a complete stop and run backward to hold the calf down! He's an all round athlete of the first class.
I entered this paint rope horse in the APHA World Poster Contest. Not caring if he gets in or not, just wanted to enter something. Most of the posters from past years have had something to do with kids and horses, I wanted to show the other side of a paint horse, the working hard side....

Our Art, Our Selves: Selected Self-Portraits March Exhibit
March brings us this wonderful exhibit of self-portraits by some of the fabulous artists of Worldwide Women Organization!
A special thank you to Robin Hernandez for organizing this event! Robin best summarizes her professional work with sculpture, ceramics, paintings, and other wonderful multi-media art in this way:
"I make art using a variety of media. Of particular interest to me is creating art from found objects, and returning them to their former glory as prized property. In blending the human figure with these “rescued” objects--I create sculpture that is highly anthropomorphic, thus illustrating the connections we have to our personal belongings.
I am an interdisciplinary artist, not feeling constrained to work in any one medium."
