New Action Needed on the Orphan Act Bill

Today I prepared and printed many ACEOs ... it was a lot of work and a lot of fun!! I played with this image and made several other variations of these unusual birds. Please all US residents take the action suggested below to try to stop this irresponsible version of this well-meaning but mis-guided bill. Clearly my local US Representative, John Olver, does not understand the importance of this bill. He supports it for the museums. He doesn't realize how much this will hurt all the artists in his district. So please, please write!

Spring Birds

Spring Birds, Digital © Diane Clancy

Totally quoted from an email sent to me:

A quick update about this bill. It is poised for a final vote (date not yet announced) so please try to get your final "shots" in.

What illustrators and designers and photographers etc. are doing now is a postcard mailing blitz... (many of them are using their postcard mailers or printing off something quickly)

On the back they write: "Please vote NO on the Orphan Works bill-- H.R. 5889 for the House; S-2913 for the Senate" and sign it with their name and contact information.

No explanation necessary just "VOTE NO TO THE ORPHAN WORKS ACT."

**But here is the important part: **

**Any correspondence needs to be addressed to the DISTRICT OFFICE. **

Apparently, mail received at district offices, gets to the congressmen faster than it would if sent to their actual offices.

You can go to this link:

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

Just click on the name and it will take you to his or her website where the mailing address of the district office can be found.

Four

I don't paint that often these days - maybe once or twice a month, but I finished this yesterday evening about 7 before the sun went down. I sketched and painted it down at the barn and when the wind came up, I moved into my little tack room to finish. It was quite cramped in there with this large painting - a 4' x 3' canvas. I'm happy with this painting because it captures the body styles and personalities of each of my four horses. My four year - Fierte, My 15 year old - Cody, My 5 year old - Vinny, and finally my 10 year old - Georgia. Painted in oils with mostly a palette knife.

Artistic Inspiration - Staci Rose Designs

Inspiration comes from many places and it varies from artist to artist. I am inspired by textures for my pottery, colors for my paintings, the stones themselves for my jewelry, or even the desires of one of my customers!

I gain inspiration from the different artist groups I belong to, as well. One recent challenge had me creating a Hamsa. Also known as the Hand of Fatima, the Eye of Fatima, or the Hand of Miriam, it is a symbol used to protect against the evil eye. The word itself, in Hebrew and Arabic, literally means "five" - some associate the significance of the five fingers to the five books of the Torah for Jews, the Five Pillars of Islam for Sunnis, or the five People of the Cloak for Shi'ites. In Jewish culture you can find it incorporated in wall plaques, mobiles, keychains and necklaces. Sometimes they are inscribed with Hebrew prayers for the home or travelers.

I decided to take a random idea of wire, pewter charms, and glass beads and make it a reality of a 6 inch wall hanging. This is the first time I have ever created something like this and I had a fabulous time! I am happy to create one just for you - I welcome custom orders! Simply drop me a line at stacirosedesigns@yahoo.com or request a custom order through my Etsy shop!

What inspires you?!!

Romantic Found Poetry ACEO's

I have three new romantic "found poetry" collaged ACEO's listed in my Etsy shop! Shown above is one of them.

Each ACEO includes my own lines of poetry, clipped from recycled book pages. "Found poetry" is when you think of poetic thoughts, then find individual words in printed text, such as an old book, magazine, newspaper, etc....cut it and arrange it to what you want to say.
These are romantic, light-hearted, OOAK, original, collectible cards...no prints will be, nor has been made.

Summer's Where?

We had three or four days of sun with temps in the 90s, I remember them well. Just last weekend the AC was a necessity. Now the heat comes on and it's in the 50s. I really enjoy warm summer nights. These dunes remind me of the Lake Ontario shore I visited each summer as a child. Able to stay up later because school was out, we'd play in the dunes until the sun set.

Morning Still

I wanted to test my skills at a fast/loose style and choose one of perhaps thousands of photographs of the British Columbia landscape that I have taken.

I am not entirely satisfied with the beach area, but I think I'll let this one sit for a couple of days and see if anything in particular jumps out at me. All my new Daniel Smith paints (Cadmium Green Hue, Rich Green Gold, Quinacridone Gold, and Asphaltum) were used in this one as well as some old favourites (Cerulean Blue, Titanium-Zinc White, and Sap Green). I kept the palette fairly simple... but not too restrictive.

So...Come here often???

This is a digitally altered photo that I took of a pair of gulls , it reminded me of a male going up to a female in a club and using an old one liner on her...LOL. Hard to tell if she is impressed or not though :-)

Sunny Perch, Watercolour Miniature Painting

This is another one of my little bird paintings that I have been playing around for a little while now. I was getting frustrated with the greens (both the convenience and the made-to-order greens) so I placed this one to the side. But, now that I've received my new green (rich green gold from Daniel Smith) I've given it another try. And... I do like the spring freshness that I've been able to achieve now.

Inner Vision

Switching things up again, I like to keep folks guessing, wondering what will she do next! Or in this case *What IS that?*, which happens to be the name of the contest challenge for this week at the photography site I belong to. I keep entering, but have yet to win. Last time, I got one vote so I think I am getting better!
Anyhow, if you can't tell, this is a shot I took looking into the opening of a conch shell.

Sky Blue Universe

View From the Jetty on a Pristine Day -c 2008 Lynda Lehmann

Sky Blue Universe

sunlight bends to grasp and hold
far regions bound to earth.
horizon ties heaven, land, and sea,
the universe-continuum
whose color is the sky.

waters, skies, pass days to nights.
boulders massive, algae slight
bind all to One
grand cycle, play, and song,
transforming dark to light.

*Some Guy*

This is my very first attempt at an actual 9x12 portrait type picture,,it was supposed to look like somebody, but it didn't come out the way it should have, but I still like it :-), alright, I will admit it,,I am actually proud of it...lol
Of course if anybody figures out who it was supposed to be I will be happy.
Anyway, I have NEVER tried to do anything like this, if drawing is needed for my quilts, I usually get my daughter to do it.
I drew this using a #2 pencil and absolutely NO experience!
So what do you think?

This is my latest painting, Hippo. I was going to do him on a 12x16 canvas, but after sketching it out, it just wasn't working for me. I then decided on an 8x10 - much better.
I kept my palette to burnt sienna, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue, Indian red, titanium white, phthalo green, and just a bit of paynes gray for his eye. This was one of those paintings that just about painted itself. I love when it all flows like that.
I love having a digital camera where I can instantly shoot the pic and upload it on the computer. My daughter bought a new digital camera, so I bought her old one. Works perfect for what I need.

A Thousand Favours

This is a mixed media canvas painting entitled 'A Thousand Favours'. It features hand transferred image from one of my own original paintings along with indian ink, poetry, vintage letters, acrylics paints and glazes. The deep sides of the gallery wrapped canvas are fully painted and decorated as part of the work so the piece can be hung without the need for a frame. Piece measure 40cm x 30cm x 4cm (approx) and is currently available for sale in my ebay store. CLICK HERE to visit!

Steve n tree

I am trying something different with him, but I don't have color ink yet so I printed him in black and white and then *colorized* him with colored pencils...I think he is too pale, what do you
think?
And the tree needs some work still...too bushy I think, but it's a start, I may still do him as applique, depends on whether I get color ink or not.

Lady of the Shadows

Ink and marker pen drawing 'Lady of the Shadows' was created on smooth white cartridge paper.
I love these amazing professional markers, they are well worth the expense,(even though it is taking me a while to build up my colour palette!) for illustrating, they blend so beautifully and are wonderfully portable-I take mine everywhere with me now!
This piece is currently available for sale in m ebay store CLICK HERE to visit!

3rd in series

This is the 3rd, I guess it would be called rainbow work, since it isn't redwork, but done the same way, I just used all the colors I used in the 2 previous butterflies.

Enjoy each Day!

Why not live where you can take advantage of nice weather?
Lovely little town, in the Abacos, the only motorized vehicles allowed are golf carts.
Notice the scenery isn't marred with power poles and street lights. Property can be pricey but many homes are available to rent for a day, a week or a month.
Bring your scuba gear, your snorkle and if you can, come over in your boat.

This little watercolor is an Art Card or ACEO measuring only 2.5 x 3.5 inches. There's quite a bit of real estate in this small space. You can see this painting and a few others at my Etsy store.

Tattered Fairy ACEO

Just a quick post update today! - This is Tattered Fairy , a mixed media altered art style ACEO currently for sale in my etsy store CLICK HERE to visit!

What are ACEOs???? ACEO is the acronym for "Art Cards Editions and Originals". An ACEO is a small piece of art that can be defined by it's convenient 2.5 x 3.5 inch size. (Standard trading card size)
ACEOs are VERY different from trading cards however, because they are CREATED and traded or sold by artists. All my ACEOs are absolute ORIGINAL pieces of art! (Some artists choose to sell prints of their work -'editions' )

ACEOs are created in any medium available in the art world. Artists are creating them in ALL kinds of styles and varieties. There are no rules limiting the artist, outside of the size dimensions. ACEOs can be framed, propped, used as bookmarks, grouped together in larger frames......use YOUR imagination! Trading Card notebooks, sleeves and holders can all be used to display them.

WHY NOT BECOME A COLLECTOR YOUR SELF OR BEGIN A COLLECTION AS A SPECIAL GIFT FOR A FRIEND TODAY-THE VARIETIES ARE ENDLESS!

The Celebration by Ruth Palmer

So, here's another one of my fractals. I'm really having a lot of fun with this program. I particularly like the combination of colors and shapes in this one, it's one of my faves so far. I actually like fractals that don't look like the average fractal, if that makes any sense to anyone.

Take Five, a Miniature Watecolour Painting

This is one of my largest watercolours in a long while... and I enjoyed it so much that I have already cut up more paper this size and larger. I used, with kind permission, a reference photo by Kenny P (MrClean1982 on flikr!) for this painting. I was captivated by the look and details of the wonderful photograph.

It's About Time I Blogged!

I hardly every blog. There just never seems to be enough time but I thought I'd share one of my new fractals. Friends had been encouraging me to try fractal art for a long time and I always put it off. Anyway, I decided to give it a try and it's really a lot of fun. Here's one I call " The Birds". It's bright and colorful and a great piece for children. I could get hooked on fractalizing!

Quilter

Last night I decided to try something a little different. This was made for a challenge group, this month we had to use recycled jeans, so I decided to try my hand at doll making! It is not perfect by any means, however, it was a lot of fun and I think I will be doing more of these!
As you can tell she is a quilter. She has a tote bag filled with quilts that need bindings, and as she waits for the bus, she does some work on her most recent quilt.
