Sundrenched

I really need to be painting for a large solo show I have coming up next winter. But of course, I keep getting sidetracked by all the beautiful spring flowers that are just bursting forth everywhere. To make matters worse, I've just purchased a new camera, a 10.2 mega pixel Sony Alpha digital SLR. Not only do I need to test it out and begin to learn how to use it, but having it in my hands makes me want to photograph everything in sight.

An old obsession is photographing rocks and minerals, my own little collection of colorful crystals. They're not perfect specimens, but they're gems to me; their beauty is fascinating. Of course I'm having trouble with getting sufficient depth of field when shooting these, close up. I'm hoping to find just the right settings for my crystal shots, but don't hold your breath!

Clematis

Nature always has a surprise to offer, whether it's a grand sunset, an encounter with a soulful furry critter (pet or otherwise), the power and majesty of a waterfall, or a simple "everyday" bloom. I came upon this graceful and elegant purple Clematis along a neighbor's fence while on a walk, and for a moment, I felt was deep in a shaded woodland. Mother Earth blesses us with many gifts. Whether one chooses to look at this as the inherent bounty of the universe, biodiversity, evidence of a higher being or grace, or simple serendipity, doesn't matter. The bottom line is that we are rich in beauty and inspiration, if we just take the time to look. Image c 2007 Lynda Lehmann.

African Violet

This is one of my older works. The original abstract mixed media painting is on Arches paper, 12 x 16 inches. It's a stylized but delicately-shaded and textured rendering, with negative spaces that are important to the composition. I tried to convey the sensous unfolding of the pink petals. I used salt to create the textured areas, and a bit of Prismacolor pencil for the thin lines.Available as an archival print on canvas, at http://www.lyndalehmann.com/ . Does This Make You Think of the Tropics?

Ahhh, a warm beach, the cry of seagulls, the crashing of waves, the fragrance of tropical flowers in the air....

Boy, could I use this right now as I look out my window at the snow that is falling here.

This digital art is a photo of the first precious little blossom that my hibiscus plant managed to squeak out last week, a blessing from the Lord.

So, I took these photos and did several digital versions of it and decided that I would have a hibiscus series.
